Exploration 4: Katie Wells

Part One:
After researching the events of the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989, what struck me as the most important would be how much of a shock this came to Chinese allies and nations across the world. After the shootings that took place on June 4th, 1989, killing at least 300 people . . . U.S. Congress was pushing President George Bush at the time to somehow punish the Chinese Government. What ended up happening is they voted to impose on the economic sanctions against the People's Republic of China. That just really stood out to me, to show truly how wrong they were for shooting young adults who were fighting for something that they strongly believed in.
Part Two:
This image was taken in Portland, Maine after the Tiananmen Square Massacre. This photo is effective because it shows just how much of an impact this tragedy had on people across the world.

This image shows the Tiananment Square after the Massacre on June 4th, 1989. This photo is effective because it makes you feel almost as if you were there watching the soldiers clean up all of the streets, the emotion and sadness after what happened on that day, and it makes you question what is going through their minds as they clean up.

  1. The second image you have of the square is full of sadness it really does show how bad things were how all hope has disappeared from the people.

  2. That last picture really stood out to me. It's almost as if a war happened there and in a way, one kind of did. and i agree that it makes you wonder what theyre thinking. did they want to do this or only do it because they have to?
