Exploration 4; Haley Miner

Part 1:
One thing that struck me as important was the fact that not only was the Tiananmen Square Protest huge but it caused other cities to begin to protest too. Many students traveled to Tiananmen Square to join the protest and stand up for what they wanted. It surprised me that the students could have things so organized with how many people were there to help.
Part 2: The above photo is from the Tiananmen Square Protest in 1989. It shows that many people gathered just to show they were not going to stand down and that they will keep fighting.
This photo shows why the protest today is called the umbrella riots. The police are attacking with gas causing the students to protect themselves with umbrellas. As you can see in both pictures, people refuse to give into the government and will stand for what they believe in even if it kills them.

  1. the second picture is crazy. I cant imagine traveling to a place with the goal of getting peper sprayed to make a point.

  2. I didn't know that the protest was also called the Umbrella Riots. That's crazy that they were protecting themselves from gas with them.

  3. It is amazing to see how determined these people are to speak their mind and have democracy.

  4. The amount of umbrellas that are on the bottom is proving just how much their people are willing to stand up for war they believe is right.

  5. Both of those are very inspiring pictures. The seconf one really captures the lenghts to which people are willing to go to protest.

  6. That second picture is really inspirational. There are so many umbrellas that shows people are willing to stand up for their rights and justice. Those pictures truly captured courage and persistence.
