Link to Mr. Money Mustache blog. From Mike Lohre

This is your blog work for our last class!  Hope you enjoy this site as I've learned a ton from it.  I used it to buy a bike on Craiglist (great post) and I used it to make choices on buying used cars.  The biggest thing about this blog is it all helps you avoid debt and think twice about how you spend money.

The truth is that we can complain about goverment debt with good cause, but the government is a reflection of us, and we are a bit of a hypocrit unless we deal with our own financial habits first, and most Americans have a very dubious record with debt and money management.

This guy can truly help.

I hope you enjoy it and can find a post that is useful to you! Have fun!

Mike

  1. I read Mr. Money Mustache's blog post Introducing the Metal Roof: Shingles are now Obsolete. This blog argues why and how metal roofs are more efficient. He gives multiple examples and the research to back these examples throughout the blog. I found this blog post very interesting. As I step into married life, my fiance and I are looking into homes and whether to buy or build. Reading this article definitely justifies putting a metal roof on a home instead of shingles. I found this post very helpful and educational.

  2. I read the post about getting rich with science. I think it was really well done. It starts with an angry comment from a previous post and then he proceeds to dissect the argument and shed light on its short comings. But the main point of the article is that science is a friend, when used properly it will make life better to all who use it. It extols the virtues of thinking and a knowledge based life as opposed to a life lead in ignorance. He argues that understanding humans and why we do what we do is a prime way to learn about how to save money. I think it is a valid point, and its also worth pointing out that there are entire companies who do this kind of research full time. In the end he makes the point that life is much better when we embrace a scientific point of view instead of fighting against it. That has always been my thoughts on the matter.

  3. The link I chose is How to Start a Blog, because I want to start a blog, this has a straight direct pathway. No one I have read has given me a direct way to start a website. I can generalize this to start a website with my own projects and resume. And occasionally he uses humor that makes sense to me. There isn't anyone that can make me laugh trough text, but MMM can

  4. I read the article "Why you should Get your Shit Together Before you Make it Big" which is basically an article about why you need to be smart with your money when you start making a lot and how to do it. It was a very helpful and true article because many people tend to spend and use all of their money once they make it big because they over due it and spend more than they should. It is very smart to advise against that by being content with what you have sometimes. I thought it was a very helpful and useful article and i liked i very much.

  5. I read the blog about Electric Bicycles. I never had heard of these things before and was quite intrigued. According to him they can reach up to 50 mph, that's astonishing. I found it an interesting idea to start biking everywhere and just may do it.

  6. I chose to read the December 2014 post: "All Wheel Drive Does Not Make You Safer". Driving a little 2005 Honda Civic in Ohio's winter weather can be challenging at times. I live in a farm town of little Mt. Gilead, a lot of my friends drive trucks . . . all the time they tell me that I just need to get a truck because the four wheel drive is so much nicer in the winter. Well, after reading this article saying that AWD is just a bunch of made up stuff, that physics says differently and as long as you have good tires made me think. Mr. Mustache made me realize that my little Honda Civic is doing just fine. I got new tires a couple of weeks ago for the front, luckily it was 2 days before that 3 inches of snow that we got and my car did fine. Mr. Mustache said as long as you steer your car in the direction you want to go, not too much acceleration, and not crashing into anything or letting anything crash into you is the most important things to remember. Mr. Mustache said that AWD is a "performance feature" rather than a "safety feature". This article was really well done and made me realize that I don't need to have AWD unless I plan on going up a Colorado mountain anytime soon. In the meantime, I'm very happy with my Honda.

  7. Though many of the blog posts looked interesting, the post that I decided to read was “Great News: You’re Allowed to Have Only One Kid”. At first glance the title caught my interest purely because it contained humor. As I continued reading the post, it was not only full of humor and sarcasm, it was informational as well. Within the post, Mr. Money Mustache brings to light a struggle that many married couples face: Should we have children? Or not? And if so, how many? An insightful thought that he writes in this post is essentially that societally, couples are most commonly pressured to have more than one child. The traditional societal influenced number per couple is around two. One of my favorite quotes from this post is stated when he was explaining he and his wife’s train of thought, “So anyway, one day we had a two-year-old son and thus it was time to produce the next child…Thinking about it, this was the main reason I was assuming we’d have two kids. You have the second one as a gift to your first one, so they can go through life together. ” (“Great News: You’re Allowed to Have Only One Kid”, Mr. Money Mustache). Later in the blog he mentions a source, Parenting an Only Child. This source, helped he and his wife further their decision as to whether to have a second child or not. Upon reading Parenting an Only Child, he wrote on his blog another humorous exclamation that he made towards his wife, “Honey! This is amazing news! We’re allowed to have only one kid, and everything still turns out great! This is what WE should do!” (“Great News: You’re Allowed to Have Only One Child, Mr. Money Mustache). The decision that was made, as it was the right choice for Mr. Money Mustache and his wife, was to only have one child. Although I won’t need the information presented in this blog post for a long time, it was very entertaining to read and I can certainly see why his blog posts are sought after by those looking for a humorous, but credible source for information.

  8. I read Mr. Money Mustache's article about when energy savings become an emergency. This article diagnosed where we are wasting our money when it comes to energy like gasoline, heating, ac, and electricity. I liked how this article showed how much money you could save if you took saving to the extreme and don't live with luxuries in life. I wouldn't recommend this this article it takes things to the extreme and farther than most people would go, so I find it unrealistic. Some people may want to live like this but that's a very small percentage of American's.

  9. I read the article "Luxury is just another weakness". This article talks about how luxuries are good but can bring with them a feeling that you need more. He tells a story about a business trip where he got off the plane and then went to get picked up by a Lincoln. He describes the time in the car siting in a luxury car read emails on his phone while someone else is driving him around. He compare the feeling that a luxury give you to the feeling of a drug you get something out of it but it will give you something negative in return. He continues to say that it is still good to dabble in luxuries but he warns to not make them a necessity.

  10. "Getting rich with science" is the post that I read on Mr.Money Mustache's blog. I really enjoyed this article and felt it was well done. He starts off the article with an angry comment which states how science is not accurate and is basically bull. Mr. Money mustache then goes on explaining how science when accepted is extremely helpful in life. The main point he makes is that if we acknowledge the concepts of science instead of fighting against it and if we understand the natural behavior humans, one can make and save a lot of money. I liked this article because I love science and I could agree with all the points he was making.

  11. I read "Pawn Shop". I enjoyed this article because it goes through all the struggles he faced when the compressor he was using stopped working so he went on craigslist which led him to a woman who asked him to meet at a pawn shop. There they ran into more trouble because they could not get the compressor out until all the bills were paid on it. Running into this trouble he says to forget it and goes home. He decided to just fix it on his own and realized it was much cheaper to do it that way then to try and buy a different one. I enjoyed it because it shows that just because something is broke and you don't know how to fix it at first doesn't mean you should go out and buy a new object. you should try to learn how to fix it first.

  12. The article “Why You Should Get Your Shit Together Before You Make It Big” by Mr. Money Mustache and it was about why it is necessary for one to be smart with his/her money when one starts to make a lot of money. I found this article to be very beneficial to me, and could be very beneficial to others too because most people end up wasting all their money as soon as they start making a lot. I happened to do this myself when I first started making money. I thought I had so much so I spent all of it on stupid things that I didn’t need and ended up having no money for what I actually needed. Mr. Money Mustache advises the reader to be satisfied with what you have and not always try to over do it, even if you’re big. Overall I really enjoyed this article and have actually sent the link out to a few of my friends already
