Final Exploration

Part 1)        When I look back at all of the work we did over the semester, it really was hard to pick just one piece that I am proud of. That being said, the thing that I am most proud of I actually wrote for a different class. I wrote a research paper for my history of communications class a few weeks ago that I really enjoyed.  It was on the history of internet piracy, and the research was both fun and interesting. I learned a lot about a growing problem and a bit about what is being done to try and slow it down. I wouldn't have been able to write it so well, let alone enjoy it if I hadn't taken this class.

Internet piracy is a relatively new thing, the internet has only been available to the masses since the mid 90s. But in that short time it has really exploded into every aspect of our lives. Internet piracy went right along with it, step for step. It started in the late 90s with the infamous Napster suits and from there it became more complex and grew into what some people today call an epidemic. Over this semester I really gained an appreciation for writing. I find myself enjoying it more then I ever did before and actually putting the effort into doing a good job. It was invaluable to me, and I think to all of us to have a professor who actually explained the writing process well, and taught us by examples; doing research, becoming proficient at active reading, and understanding how to make effective use of words.

Part 2) I will share with you my favorite website, well actually its a blog more then a website. It is
http://www.artofmanliness.com. This blog is all about bringing back the gentleman from the dead. The guy who owns the site, Brett McKay, was a lawyer before he started blogging in 2008, and he is a very gifted writer. Much like the Mr. Money Mustache assignment this blog is all about personal betterment; but its not just about money, it covers all aspects of life. This blog has been invaluable to me over the years and I feel that it has helped me to become a well rounded man. I suspect that at least a few of you already know about it, and to those who don't, I highly recommend giving it a look. While it wasn't designed for women directly, I think that there is something for women there. Most of the articles are about useful skills that would benefit both men and women equally.

  4. I also believe the art of the gentlemen should be reborn. It is quite sad that simply being a gentleman or woman is offensive to some people.
