The author that I researched was Frederick Douglass. He was an african american man who played a role in the anti-slavery movement. I found it interesting that he was sent to Baltimore to live with a ship carpenter. I also found it interesting that when he went back to the country he ended up on the farm of a slave breaker where he was wiped daily and to the point that he was arrested for making a plan to try and escape. This incident was what lead him to become well educated which lead him to become acquainted with his mentor William Lloyd Garrison. The thing that surprised me the most was that he talked with Lincoln during the civil war helped to recruit for the civil war
Of the poems that we read in class the one that stood out the most to me was Bury Me in a Free Land by Frances E. W. Harper. I liked this poem because of its use of figurative language and the message that he has it give. I noticed that in this poem he uses repetition for the line "I could not". The Language stood because of the strong metaphors to show how he wanted slaves to be free. What I want to know is what were the life experience that Harper went through to lead her to write this poem.
One literacy event that was significant to me was the book Shreadderman by Wendelin Van Draanen. I read this book when i was in 4th grade and it was the first time that I can say I was reading a book for fun as a posed to reading for school. This book is about a boy who is inspired by his teacher to take on an injustice that he see going on in the school. In doing so he creates a website called website to counter the school bully and become an anonymous hero. While reading this I found myself wanting to read more and more. This also lead me to read the other books that were in this series.

Hey Preston! I can't believe you can solve a rubik's cube in under 30 seconds! I can get the bottom side done and after that I have to look online for instructions. I also love your picture because it reminds me of all the memories I have of going to Cedar Point. Even though I'm scared as all get out and never really liked roller coasters, I am slowly expanding my horizons and can never get enough of amusement parks (almost to the point of wanting to make my own).
ReplyDeleteI found it interesting that you built your own 3D printer, in my high school tech class we had one. I always liked messing around with it in class. It's really cool when you think about it, imagine in the future every house would have one and they could just print out any object they might need.
