Exploration 4 Cody Compton

After reading about the Tiananman Square protests of 1989, what struck me as being most important to learn and remember, is that it started out with a thousand students and grew to 1.2 million people. We as Americans are very lucky, if we would protest something like that it would not turn in to bloodshed, with the exception of the Kent State Massacre. The Chinese government brought martial law into the mix, resulting in numerous deaths. this is very important to remember because, history can repeat itself and often does if we do  not learn from it.
I chose this picture to show just how large the protest was.
I chose the picture because it shows how the students have to protect them selves from the pepper spray that the police are using against them.

  1. We are lucky to have a democratic system in the US making it so we do not have to protest to have our word heard.

  3. I agree. Democracy may not be perfect, but its far better then having to protest in the streets, get pepper sprayed, and killed.

  4. In response to what Dillion said, I'm thankful that even when it gets to the point that people have to protest that we can do it in a respectful way and it falls into freedom of speech and assembly.

  5. I agree, we are very lucky to have the government system whe have even though it is far from perfect. Although i have to say that these people are really commited to what they believe, becasuse most people stop protesting before covering their eyes to protect themselves from the pepper spray

  6. Wow. That second photo is so sad. The students in China are putting themselves through so much to fight against their government.

  7. I like that your second picture shows how students are aware that they could get pepper sprayed and yet the just try and find a way around it. They don't give up the fight.
